In the early hours of Thursday, January 30, a drone struck a ten-story apartment building in Sumy. As a result of the attack, four people lost their lives, and at least nine others were injured. This was reported by the State Emergency Service and the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The head of the Sumy Regional State Administration, Volodymyr Artiukh, stated that at 00:18, the Russian army attacked the high-rise building in Sumy with a Shahed kamikaze drone. According to him, one person died, and three others, including a child, were injured. Later, the Sumy City Council denied reports about the deceased.
The acting mayor of Sumy, Artem Kobzar, announced that emergency response teams would begin operations from 09:00 to address the consequences of the emergency situation. One of the teams will be set up near the site of the drone strike, while another will be at Kindergarten No. 9.

According to the rescuers, as a result of the attack on the apartment building in Sumy, a preliminary assessment indicates that 9 apartments and 12 balconies were destroyed. Rescuers managed to save four individuals, including a child. Additionally, 118 people were evacuated from the building.
“According to preliminary information, 9 people were injured, including one child. Emergency and search operations are ongoing,” – the State Emergency Service reported in the morning.
Updated at 07:30. According to information from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, rescuers retrieved the bodies of a man and a woman from the rubble.
Later, at 08:37, law enforcement officials reported that the death toll from the Russian attack in Sumy had risen to four.
“Rescuers have extracted the bodies of two more individuals from the destroyed structures of the residential building on the 5th floor. Operations are ongoing,” – the Ministry of Internal Affairs stated.
The acting mayor of Sumy, Artem Kobzar, declared that January 30-31 would be days of mourning for those who lost their lives in the drone strike.
