The Sambir District Court in Lviv Oblast has issued a verdict against the traumatologist of the local central hospital, Marijan Seneyko, who accepted a bribe from a patient for extending a disability group. The court imposed a penalty on the doctor – a fine of 40,800 UAH.
According to the verdict, which was published in the court register in November, the traumatologist of the Sambir Central Hospital, Marijan Seneyko, was accused of demanding and receiving a bribe for influencing the officials of the MSEC. The doctor allegedly informed the patient that he needed to provide him with 1,000 dollars for the extension of the third disability group. In exchange for the bribe, he would influence the MSEC officials. Seneyko received the money at the end of July 2024, after which he was detained by law enforcement.
A criminal case was initiated against the doctor. In court, he admitted his guilt and explained that his patient had undergone surgery in 2022 for a spinal fracture and had a metal structure installed. The operation took place in Lviv, and then the patient was referred to Marijan Seneyko for treatment and monitoring. In 2022, the man obtained a third disability group. When the term of the established group was about to expire, the man visited the doctor. He was hospitalized and provided with a discharge summary. According to Marijan Seneyko, he filled out the MSEC clearance sheet, and the man gave him 1,000 dollars, asking him to resolve the issue, to which he agreed.
The case was reviewed by Judge Volodymyr Halyn, who examined all the materials of the case. He took into account information about the accused, including that he had no prior convictions and had donated 40,000 UAH to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The judge imposed a fine of 40,800 UAH on the doctor, and the confiscated money is to be returned to the man who gave the bribe. The verdict can still be appealed.
