The Helsinki police have lifted the seizure of the Russian tanker Eagle S, which is suspected of damaging cables in the Baltic Sea.

It is known that the arrest was lifted on Friday, February 28, as the preliminary investigation by the Central Criminal Police and the technical investigative measures on the vessel reached a stage where there were no longer grounds for its continued seizure.

The law enforcement agencies saw no obstacles to the vessel's departure from Finland's territorial waters. The Border Guard is monitoring the exit of the tanker Eagle S from the territorial waters and the economic zone of Finland.

The vessel has already left Porvoo. According to Vesselfinder, it is accompanied by tugs Ukko and Ahti. A patrol ship, Turva, from the Finnish Gulf Coast Guard is also escorting it.

Currently, the companies Fingrid and Elering are independently covering the costs for the repair of the Estlink 2 cable to restore the connection as quickly as possible.

At the same time, the police stated that the issue of enforcement measures regarding the tanker’s crew will be considered separately.

According to preliminary investigations, eight individuals are suspected of committing the crime. Of these, three remain in Finland under a travel ban.
