Champions League, 8th Round
Borussia Dortmund (Germany) – Shakhtar (Ukraine) – 3:1
Goals: Girači, 17, 44, Bensebaini, 79 – Gomes, 50
The hosts started the match more actively, but there were no serious threats. The first dangerous shot from the "miners" came in the 12th minute: Zubkov shot low into the far corner – Kobel saved. Shortly after, the "bee" team took the lead: Adeyemi shot towards the far corner, the ball hit Girači and found its way into the net.
In the second half of the half, Riznyk saved "Shakhtar" after a powerful shot from Bainou-Gittens from a sharp angle. There were opportunities for Sudakov, but the German defense held firm. A minute before the break, Girači scored his second goal: the hosts capitalized on Kryskiv's mistake, Brandt set up Sergiy one-on-one, and he shot under Riznyk.
After the break, "Shakhtar" pulled one goal back: Kobel was caught playing with the ball, and Marlon snatched it from under his feet and sent it into the net. Unfortunately, with 10 minutes remaining in the game, Bensebaini's precise shot delivered the final verdict on Donetsk's chances for success.
"Shakhtar" finished in 27th place in the Champions League standings, accumulating 7 points – the "miners" concluded their participation in the most prestigious European tournament. Borussia Dortmund, with 15 points, secured the 10th position.
