The number of Russian ground troops fighting against Ukraine is approximately 620,000 soldiers. This was reported by Major General Vadym Skibitsky, Deputy Chief of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, in an interview with "RBK-Ukraine," published on Monday, March 3.
«If we talk about the ground component – it's approximately 620,000, of which over 200,000 are assault units participating in combat actions and located on the front line», – noted Skibitsky.
According to him, an additional 35,000 members of the National Guard of Russia support the occupation authorities. They guard the most critical sites in temporarily occupied territories and can carry out tasks in the enemy's second echelon during defense organization if necessary.
In addition, there are also troops involved in logistical support, units of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, and aviation that is not directly based in combat zones but is engaged in delivering strikes.
Furthermore, the Main Intelligence Directorate has established that Russia plans to recruit 343,000 contract soldiers into the military by 2025 and complete the formation of new units and formations.
«Speaking of plans – it's 343,000 servicemen, specifically referring to contract recruitment. However, from the experience of 2024, we know that these plans change – usually upwards. For example, last year the goal was to recruit approximately 375-380,000, then it changed to 430,000, and ultimately they recruited 440,000 servicemen under contracts», – reported Skibitsky.
Recall that at the end of February, it became known that North Korea sent additional troops to the Kursk region of Russia to participate in combat actions, but the exact number of military personnel remains unknown.
