The former head of a village in the Khmelnytskyi region has been sentenced to 3.5 years in prison for corruption. The official signed documents containing false information regarding capital repairs at a cultural center, causing the state a loss of 250,000 UAH. This was reported by the press service of the regional prosecutor's office on November 4.
According to the investigation, in December 2016, the official entered into a contract with an entrepreneur for capital repairs in the cultural center building. The total cost of the work was nearly 800,000 UAH.
“Despite the fact that the work was not completed in full, the village head signed acceptance certificates with inaccurate data included. The volumes of work and the cost of materials used were inflated. The actions of the accused caused damage to state interests amounting to 250,000 UAH,” the prosecutor's office reports.
The former village head was found guilty of abuse of office resulting in severe consequences (part 2 of Article 364 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) and was sentenced to 3.5 years in prison, with a three-year ban on holding positions in local government. Additionally, the official is required to pay a fine of 17,000 UAH. The verdict can still be appealed.
