Borussia has announced the appointment of a new coach following their victory over Shakhtar in the Champions League.

Throughout his playing career, Kovach spent nearly all of his time in Germany, representing clubs like Hertha (twice), Bayer, Hamburg, and Bayern Munich. He hung up his boots at Austrian club Salzburg, where he began his coaching career as an assistant.

Niko Kovač has been appointed as the new head coach of Borussia Dortmund, according to the official website of the German club. The 53-year-old specialist has signed a contract with the "Bumblebees" until June 30, 2026. He will succeed Mike Tullberg, who temporarily took on the role of head coach following the dismissal of Nuri Shahin.

Kovač spent almost his entire playing career in Germany, representing clubs such as Hertha (twice), Bayer, Hamburg, and Bayern Munich. He hung up his boots at Austrian club Salzburg, where he began his coaching career as an assistant.

In 2013, he took charge of the Croatian U21 national team and later the senior national team (2013-2015). His career then included coaching the German clubs Eintracht (2016-2018) and Bayern Munich (2018-2019), the French club Monaco (2020-2021), and the German club Wolfsburg (2022-2024).

As a coach, he won the DFB-Pokal with Eintracht (2017/18 season), the Bundesliga silver plate (2018/19 season), the DFB-Pokal (2018/19 season), and the Supercup (2018) with Bayern Munich.

It is worth noting that after 19 rounds, Borussia is in eleventh place in the Bundesliga standings, having accumulated 26 points, and trailing the leader – Bayern Munich – by 22 points.
