A 20-year-old from Transcarpathia driving a Skoda fatally struck a teenager and attempted to flee the region.

A fatal accident occurred on the evening of November 3 in the village of Bedevlya, Tiachiv district. A 20-year-old resident of Transcarpathia hit a 17-year-old local with his Skoda and fled the scene. The driver has been apprehended and faces up to 8 years in prison.

As reported by the Transcarpathian police on November 4, the body of the pedestrian was discovered without signs of life the day before by residents of Bedevlya. Law enforcement and medical personnel arrived at the scene, where the latter confirmed the death of the 17-year-old boy.

“The perpetrator of the accident fled the scene. A special police operation was immediately launched in the region. All crews were instructed to search for the suspect. Eventually, the Skoda Octavia, which had damage consistent with a traffic accident, was located, and the search for the driver continued. Just a few hours later, the offender was apprehended in the Khust district while attempting to escape the area,” police reported.

The individual involved in the fatal accident is a 20-year-old resident of Transcarpathia, who has been placed in a temporary detention facility and had his blood taken for examination. For violating traffic safety rules that resulted in the death of the victim, he faces up to 8 years in prison.
